Success
One defintion: “The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted”
How boring.
Life’s unpredictability is what makes it so much more beautiful. Why do we (I) insist on attempting to control it? If we ’succeeded’ we would only limit our experience to what we can imagine. I’m glad we fail sometimes.
Mat is irresponsible
Mat Holroyd, my so called friend, sat by idly and watched while I spent nearly $4000 on a Macbook Pro that I don’t need, at least not in a non-addiction sense.
I’m disappointed in you Mat.
And Apple, well. You’d think that spending almost $4000 in a day would be sufficient, but no. The final page in the process had a button which read “Continue Shopping” – they wanted more of my hard (not yet) earned money. They should get a conscience and replace the button with “Go take a stroll and think about what you’ve just done Abhi”.
Anyways, I can’t wait for my new baby to arrive!
An Admission
I want to change the world, make meaning, move mountains.
However… I’m still struggling with the basics.

Smiling despite bruised buttocks
I’ve just uploaded a few pictures from my trip to Mt Buller last weekend. This was my second time up to the snow and I decided to try snowboarding instead. I must’ve fallen over 50 times versus only twice or thrice the last time I tried skiing but I’d still snowboard over skiiing anyday – at my novice level anyway.
Just a few tips for any of you first timers to the snow:
- Drink plenty of water – before, during and after; do not underestimate how dehydrated you will get
- Do not skimp on the anti-UV goggles
- If you try snowboarding, make sure you get wristguards; there will be plenty of falling on your wrists (a big no-no I’m told)
BRW Triathlon
But now its over, I finished, we did it! In fact its been well over a month, maybe two, since the event. It was an amazing feeling to cross that finish line. A real sense of achievement and renewed confidence that I can do anything that I really choose to put my mind to. Ok, it wasnt quite that dramatic, but it did feel pretty darn good.
The triathlon consisted of a 400m swim (at beautiful Elwood Beach), a 10km bike ride (thanks for lending me your bike Leslie) and finally a 4km run. The swim was incredibly challenging, especially since I am still a tiny bit afraid of water. This used to be much worse when I was younger but over the years Ive learnt to swim and now I actually enjoy the odd swim (thanks pa, Ill never forget your insistence that this would happen one day :)).
The run and bike ride turned out to be easier. It seems that all those runs around Albert park lake with my fellow triathletes and other IBSers paid off. In fact, I cant see myself having done a triathlon without their encouragement, thanks gals and guys! The last year at IBS really has been fantastic for me; with this triathlon, clearly in more way than one.
I’m Australia’s newest citizen!
I just became a citizen of Australia. Sang its (our) national anthem for the first time. Wow, strange feeling. I’ve never sung a national anthem other than India’s before this.
They could probably do with making the ceremonies more interesting though (read – fewer speeches!). The wait to receive my certificate seemed longer than the last 6+ years I’ve spent in Australia. Sandeep was smart and brought a book along! In all seriousness though, despite my distaste for ceremony, it is a special feeling to receive the certificate and be congratulated (Though it was actually Abaa-jee Go-pee-na-ha Heeraa-mugoo-ha-ha who became a citizen according to the MC).
Of course India will always be home, but now so is Australia. I feel like a lucky kid with two sets of parents :)
I think I’ll enjoy having a national cricket team that wins all the time and I feel a sudden urge to take my obligatory sickie from work tomorrow. I wonder if they’d understand – Mike?
Consumed
I’ve been on a consumption rampage recently. I finally went out and bought a bunch of things that I’ve wanted but’ve been waiting over a year to buy.
I bought the? 10 best episodes of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe on DVD, He-Man’ was my favourite childhood cartoon series. Anyone who knew me growing up should remember how obsessed I was with He-Man. My grandmother spoilt me with every new action figure by Mattel, pretty much on the day each was released. Unfortunately I recently found out that my entire collection has been given away/lost/disposed over the years. *Sigh*. At least I can now relive those days by watching my newly acquired DVDs.
I also bought the The Complete Superman Collection, which was *finally* released on DVD in Australia last Wednesday. I can’t wait to watch all four parts again, not to mention Superman Returns when it comes out in June next year. I hope it stays true to the series with Christopher Reeve. From the photos taken during filming it looks like Brandon Routh will make a great Clark Kent, though not sure how much I’ll like him as Superman. To be fair I think Christopher Reeve will always be hard to beat for us die-hards. I wouldn’t place any money on Kate Bosworth playing a good Lois Lane, sorry Kate, just being honest. I’m really looking forward to seeing Kevin Spacey play Lex Luthor, somehow he seems feels perfect for the part.
Other DVD purchases this week included a couple of bargain ($5) DVDs of the later Crow movies; Officespace; Batman Begins, which I loved almost as much as my favourite part of the Superman series – Superman II and finally the Back to the Future trilogy.
My final purchase was the biggest and sadly I’m going to have to wait a few weeks to receive it. Ever since I sold my old laptop a few months ago I’ve been meaning to buy another one. I’ve also been meaning to buy a Mac for a long time, so I finally decided to go ahead and buy a 15 inch Apple PowerBook, especially since Apple just upped the specs on these. They now come with higher res screens and there’s an option to get a 7200rpm hard drive (which I went with of course). I can’t wait to start playing with this baby!
Now, let’s see which friend I can leech some cash off to buy my next meal.
And after 3 months…
.. only a little has changed. I now live on my own. I rent a cozy flat in Richmond just off Bridge Road. Those of you who’re familiar with Melbourne probably know what a great location this is. For those of you who aren’t, it’s great because it’s only 10 mins from the heart of Melbourne (by tram) and Bridge Road is home to several excellent cafes & restaurants & also one of Melbourne’s best shopping strips.
I love having my own space and especially enjoy having a bathroom/toilet to myself but I definitely miss the company, especially since my last set of housemates were so wonderful. I’ve always shared a house since I arrived in Melbourne in 1999 so moving out on my own feels like a big step.
There’s been a number of little things that I’ve wanted to blog about since May, but I have trouble drumming up the motivation/discipline to actually sit down and express these in words. I’m *hoping* that this post will help me build up a little momentum so I blog more often. Let’s see if this turns out to be the case.
Finally, I’d like to get an idea of who’s actually reading this blog so, if you’re reading this please post a comment or register so I know you are. This might actually help motivate me write my next post.
Until next time.

You can my view my list here. Needless to say it’s very much WIP at this stage and I’ll keep adding things as I think of them.
