My old house-mate and good friend Dipa has been donating blood regulary and thinks it’s a great idea. Another friend Kranti recently espoused the thereputic effects of donating blood when I mentioned I’d like to do this.

The Austrlian Red Cross concurs:

Some studies have shown that regular blood donation can help prevent the build-up of iron in the body over time, reducing the strain this places on major organs including the heart. The benefits are thought to be most pronounced in middle-aged men and amongst people prone to haemachromotosis. We also think that regular acts of kindness, like giving blood, are good for anyone’s heart.

So, I’ve just sms’d Dipa asking to go along with her the next time she donates. Beats doing a movie again, especially since it may just save somebody’s life.
